A national
Seminar on Indigenous Rights and Social Justice: Historical and
Contemporary Perspectives on Indian Tribes was organized by
Department of Anthropology, Ranchi University, and Indian
Anthropological Association (IAA) on 18-19th November 2005 at Ranchi University, Ranchi to commemorate the 75th Birth
anniversary of eminent anthropologist and ex. President of IAA
Late Professor L.P. Vidyarthi. This seminar dwelled on various
dimensions of tribal development programmes, reasons for their
failure, issues of tribal rights and unrest historically and in
contemporary context.
Governor of
Jharkhand Sri Sibtey Razi inaugurated the seminar and
valedictory function was presided by state minister of Education
Sri Pradeep Yadav. Large number of anthropologists and other
social scientists and students actively participated in the
seminar. The seminar concluded with a number of resolutions for
protection of tribal rights in water, land, forest and common
resources to be passed on to the policy makers. |
