Folk Culture of Chhatisgarh through an Ethnographer’s Kaleidoscope
Samarendra Saraf

The present paper makes an attempt to project the vim, vigour and vitality of the folk culture of Chhattisgarh as it is reflected in its native picturesqueness in their natural colours and raw compositions of some of the folk songs that are often sung to the tunes of their indigenous instrumental accompaniments and danced to the rhythms of the measured steps of young boys and girls, thereby creating a haunting symphony of sound and motion. The author has occasionally taken the liberty of recalling the instances of parallel situations and depictions from the non-tribal cultures here and from the elite literature there, while taking due care of preserving the native gaiety and grace of the folk lore, its essential genius and nerve, its delight and ecstasy.

Keywords: Folk Culture, Folk Songs, Chhatisgarh.
