Body Composition, Physiological
Functions and Menopause among Rajput Women of Uttaranchal by N.K.
Mungreiphy, Rashmi Sinha and Satwanti Kapoor
Variations in the shape and size in the human form reflect
inter-individual differences in the regional distribution of fat
over the muscles and bones rather than overall differences of
body composition. Menopause- an important landmark of the end of
fertility in women’s life is accompanied by various structural,
physiological and psychological changes, which usually take
place between the ages of 45-55 years. The present study on
Rajput women of Mussorie, Uttaranchal envisages the various
structural and functional changes that take place after
menopause in comparison to women having regular menstruation.
Average age at menarche was found to be 14 years while that of
menopause 48 years. Premenopausal women were more efficient as
far as physiological parameters were concern. BMI, GMT and WHR
were higher in postmenopausal women while respiratory efficiency
as adjudged from chest expansivity, in premenopausal women.
Key words: Menopause, Body composition, Physiological
functions, Rajput women, Uttaranchal. |
